Sorry for the lack of posts that aren't
fanfic lately. I just got an itch for a while there. No new Korra ep today means the itch is gone for the moment. :)
I have a little bit of job news. I'm getting a sort of promotion, kind of? I don't really know what to call it. Right now, I'm a clerical aide for one division Public Safety. It's a temporary job, and I'm not eligible for benefits like insurance, retirement, and paid leave. I've never had any of those things from a job, plus I still live at home, so that was fine. Well, this week, I was offered a clerk position (a step up) with a different division, and I decided to take it. The downside? My work will be less varied. I'm going from sorting mail, sending letters, creating folders, and some document scanning to just document scanning. And, even though clerk is usually a permanent position, this particular unit works off of grants, so it's just temporary. But it will be a month and a half more of work at this temp position than the other, and I will be making a little more even if I don't take home much more in my paycheck. I could have insurance if I want it (but I don't think I do because I don't even know what sort of mess it could be to get back on Dad's insurance when this four months is up) and they'll be setting some aside for ~retirement. And I can accrue leave time.
Basically, I took it because it's an opportunity to get myself out there and connected to more people. I don't know that this is the career I want, but right now, I'm good with it. Someone in personnel, who've I've only had a real conversation with maybe twice, recommended me for the new position. I'm pleased with that.
I am going to miss my current office. Most of the other temps hardly ever say anything, but sometimes we'd talk and laugh a bit. It was nice. I think it suited me well. I hope there's a good dynamic at my new office.
In the new office, they have a sign hanging up on a coatrack that says "Insane Asylum," so they must at least have a sense of humor, right? That's a good sign. It is darker in there. :/ Dim flourescent lighting. Yay. There's flourescent lighting in the office I'm in now, but we also have this huge floor to ceiling window, so we get natural light. I'll miss that. If
I hate the new one, it is just temporary. But I would have more on my resume and have gotten myself out there more, so I'm thinking that on the whole, this will be a good thing that I've decided to do.
So what else can I say? _missmargaret_
and I were reading The Two Towers
together, and I raced ahead and finished it yesterday. She had one moment where she was a few pages ahead of me, and I just couldn't let it be. THAT REMINDS ME! Margaret and Mom found me the most awesome (drinking) glasses ever. Let me use ~the power of the internet~ to find pictures for you.
Ok, so it's not that great of a pic, but I don't think if I took one it would look any better/you'd be able to see the glass better. But yeah. Margaret and Mom found two of these at a thrift store yesterday. Mom thought of how I always try to commemmorate Bilbo and Frodo's birthday and Tolkien's birthday, so these will be great for making toasts. I wish I was kidding. No. No I don't. I live for this stuff.
I have a Strider and a Frodo "goblet". No box, but I ain't bovvered. I will keep these glasses precious as rings. Maybe I'll keep them secret, keep them safe with my boxed LOTR PEZ dispenser set. (I kind of want to own two of those PEZ sets so I can open and use one and keep the other nice. Yes, these are the debates I have in my head).
What I was going to say before going into the goblet tangent is that I raced ahead, like the three hunters chasing the Orcs tirelessly across the plains of Rohan, you might say, and finished the book yesterday. It was so awesome. It always is. I've lost count of how many times I've been through LOTR.
Now I'm reading Wildwood
by Colin Meloy. Yes, Colin Meloy, lead singer of The Decemberists. The last book I read by an awesome songwriter was a disappointment
(Ssrry, Josh Ritter; I'll always love your songs; a lot; you're amazing), so I'm hoping this one won't be.
In other news, baby sister is moving out again. This will be the third apartment in twelve months. Yeah. Hope this one works out better.
And I think that's enough for now. Talk to you lovelies later!
